THE SURROUNDING AREA

Connemara is perhaps the most beautiful part of Ireland, it is far-famed for its lakes, mountains, streams and bogs where horses, cows and sheep pasture freely.

An enchanted place where beaches are white, the land full of wild flowers and birdsong and the lanes are lined with hedges of fuchsia.

Such natural beauty has given inspiration to the works of many of Irelands' great poets and writers e.g. J.Joyce, W.B.Yeats, S.Beckett, G.B.Shaw and O.Wilde.

Of these last, Sir William Wilde (father of Oscar) and the families of Joyce and Shaw have frequented Wellpark House in times past.
